My hubby, with all sorts of good intentions, got this GE washer/dryer set for me. I use to sell appliances, and the rule of thumb for us sellers, was STAY AWAY from selling GE washers. They don't last. I had changed my tune, a bit, but now, this thing is yet again, giving me issues, and I'm about to scream.
Anyway, the fabric softer won't dispense. The laundry detergent does fine. We unclogged the drain down at the bottom of the machine (poor design there too), so it's spinning, draining, washing ok. And I don't see or feel any left over laundry detergant in the clothes either.
Detergant and fabric softner are both liquids.
I took the dispensing tray out, and cleaned that, and the area around the tray. I am about to take a small toothbrush to see if I can clean the water dispensers.
Any other advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Your first instinct is your best instinct, and if staying away from GE was your inclination, then staying away from this model would have been one of the better things you could have done. However, now you have it, and it was expensive, so check out the service manual and see if you can determine if the solenoid valve is ok. Here is the manual for your machine. http://appliancejunk.com/ge/washer/31-9135.pdf
