Sidfink43, That was great. You know your stuff:)
I had the same problem. It was overheating and it blew the 'thermal fuse'. Got another one. Same thing. And yes it was real hot.
I checked the obvious, air flow, clogs.
Turned it was what one of what you said. My 'heating element' had grounded. I opened it up. There was all the coils held apart by ceramic (maybe?) stands and one of the coils was touching the metal frame. It was sort of welded against it from the heat. Took a minute to pop it loose from the metal. I bent it out a little to it's original position, put it all together, new thermal fuse, and now working great.
Your instructions were great. Saved me a bunch of money.

Well thanks, glad you got it fixed. Look, keep an eye on that coil, check it every several weeks to make sure it is not weak in one spot and goes up against the frame again. If it does, go ahead and replace it.

my sears dryer comes on hight heat and stays on irregardless of what setting...also very hot- above normal

the dryer comes on very hot irregardless of the setting and stays on VERY hot

Try replacing the cycling thermostat which may be stuck in the closed position.

If that does not work, start a new thread and describe your problem in as much detail as you can.
