The freezer thermostat must be closed and the unit cannot be in a defrost cycle.
Since the evaporator fan is running the unit is not in a defrost cycle. The evaporator fan can be turned on by either the freezer or fresh food control.
Did you get the manual given in my earlier post?
One way to eliminate the freezer control as the cause is to unpluge the unit. Short the two wires (not the ground wire) from the freezer temperature control together. You may have to tape them so they do not short to anything else. Then plug it in and see what happens. |

There is a little appliance sales and repair place down the street, I paid their tech $20 to diagnose my "no power" problem. We dicked around with the reefer for a while he was asking the questions you might expect to hear. He goes out to his truck and comes in with another ADC, power it off , change ADC, power on,compressor and condenser fan come on. I thanked him for his time, paid him, then took my replacement ADC back and got a replacement. Now the compressor runs but it isn't cooling, and the air damper is opening and closing, opening and closing. So my questions are. The compressor is quiet, and i can feel it running, how can i tell if it has passed on besides the obvious, no cold. And what's making the damper gape like a carp? All ideas are greatly appreciated

The compressor is quiet, and i can feel it running, how can i tell if it has passed on besides the obvious, no cold. That is how you diagnose it. If the compressor is running and there is no cooling then it is a sealed system problem and the unit is probably not worth fixing. To confirm this remove the cover in the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils. If there is no frost or just frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then it is a sealed system problem. Be sure that the compressor has run for about an hour. If you do this during or shortly after a defrost cycle you may arrive at the wrong diagnosis.
I am assuming that the compressor runs all the time other than when the unit is in a defrost cycle.
And what's making the damper gape like a carp? This I am not sure about but it could be one of the control switches is not working so the unit does not know if it is closed or open so just keeps cycling.
The above is the rational explanation but since this unit seems to be continually messing with you I think it may be the fridge saying "I hate you" Give it a kick or talk nice to it??? |
