Every 2 weeks there is about 1inch thick ice build up on the bottom of our freezer, and water leaking from the front left side. once i break ice away it seems to be fine for 2 weeks then it repeats, what would be causing this?
I have vacuumed the coils under the unit and it is still happening.
any suggestions on what it could be ? thank you
Paul

Here are your parts
Parts for Amana ABB2224WEW2 / - AppliancePartsPros.com

Note if you click on a part's picture or descition a new page will open with more info. It may have a Q&A section that should be useful to you.

Sounds like the water from auto defrost is not getting to the drip pan under the unit.

Take a look at the drain tube (item 24 in section 01).
I do not know if this unit uses a check valve and should be updated to the drain tube or if it has a plugged drain tube.

If it uses a drain tube then:
I would check that it is clear.
If plugged a turkey baster with warm water, an air compressor with low pressure or a wire can often be used to clear it.

Also check that it is not plugged with dust etc. at the drain pan end.
You might as well clean the condenser/compressor fan and the condenser coils while you are down there.

If it looks like stuff is growing in the tube I would flush it with a 10% bleach solution. This should kill the stuff and let you flush it out. You may have to do this several times, let it sit for 15 minutes or so between flushes.

Be careful that the drip tray does not overflow and empty the drip tray after you are done.

Be sure to unplug the unit while doing this.

I would remove the back of the unit to see what system it uses.

Not really just follow the info I gave in my first post.

why would this keep haPpening
If you have the correct drain tube (see the picture in the parts).
I would check the freezer temperature with a thermometer. It should be between 0 and 5 degrees F. Any colder and it might be freezing the defrost water faster than it should.
Check that the drain [pan under the coils is nice and clean. Any dirt etc. on it will slow down the eater giving it time to freeze.

I cannot say.
