Hi guys:

I am a newbie in the appliance repair world, so please be patient with me if I am asking something that is commonly known.

I have a GE top load washer model #WJRR4170GWW. It came originally with washer motor # WH20X10093. I read on repair clinics parts site- that this is the upgraded motor to washer motor # wh20x10051. I need to purchase a new motor to get my washing machine working again, and I can get the wh20x10051 motor at a real good price. Is it possible to use this motor and not have any issues (software compatibility, mechanical, etc.)? The motor is also brand new.

P.S. I have gone through all the check list's that were available on line and it has been narrowed down to the transmission shaft ( which was bad and replaced) and the motor. I have no schematics and don't know how to test the motor to see if it really is bad. I have reset the machine three times without any luck as well.

Here is the listing on this site

Cross Reference Information
Part Number WH20X10093 (AP5789051) replaces WH20X10051, WH20X10057, WH20X10043, WH20X10035, WH20X10030.

so it is highly likely that you could use that motor, but I cannot give you any guarantee that it will work. This may be even the same motor with just a different model number; see if GE will tell you that information.

I assume you have replaced the mode shifter when you say you replace the shaft. It is unusual for both the mode shifter and motor to both go out but if that is what you have and you have already replaced the mode shifter and it still does not work I think it is reasonable to try the new motor. I cannot think of any reason why the old model should not work, but again just cannot say for certain so you will be taking what I think is a small risk.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I did change the mode shifter ( I called it a transmission shaft). The only reason I changed it is because the bearing went out. When I pulled it out, the bearing had a good bit of play. It caused the shaft to wobble a lot. The resistance measure was at 94 ohms.

The new mode shifter I purchased has a different ohm reading. It measures 67 Ohms; is this good?

I don't have the specs on that machine, but that does not sound like a major issue.

Let us know how the new motor works out.
