My GE fridge's temp has been fluctuating for some time now from 32-44 degrees in the fridge side. I have so far replaced the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat and it only helped for a few hrs. The evaporator fan, i've noticed is running almost non-stop and i wasn't hearing the hum of the compressor so I pulled the fridge out and unplugged to have a look. The compressor was too hot to touch for more than a few seconds. After it cooled, when I checked it with an ohm meter, the readings were all over the place. The two bottom pins would fluctuate from 4-124. It actually fluctuated the same when with the common pin. I did a scratch test and there was no reading. Any help with what it means when you can't get a solid reading would be appreciated. Is the compressor shot and I need to go get a new fridge?

If the condensing fan is running, you probably are low on refrigerant. Pull the back freezer panel and check the frost pattern, should be total, light frost, not partial.

TY. It is frosting up on only the lower 1/3 of the coils. I went today and picked out a new fridge so I hope this one can hold out until it arrives in a few days. Earlier it wasn't cooling at all so i unplugged it for a bit and it's been on since. *fingers crossed*
