My fridge began to warm up inside over the last week or so.
I noticed that some ice cream in the freezer was soft and items in the fridge portion were not very cold and the milk went bad ( it had not been opened and had a week before expiration )
I vacuumed all the dirt and dog hair off the coils and removed the cover in the freezer and it was iced over behind it.
I attached a picture of it frozen and thawed.
I had thought it had warmed up in the freezer portion because the door did not get shut a few times (too much stuff in it).
Do I need to replace anything to ensure this does not happen again?
I have it plugged back in and am hoping it will cool down.

I put the model number in the box for the thread but the fridge has 3 different models listed after the work model: CSX22GRX, CSX22KWX, CSX223CX (the 3 could be a B)
thanks
Russ H.

Here are your parts.I think
Parts for CSX22GRX - AppliancePartsPros.com

Before ordering check for the model number again.
Find your model number - AppliancePartsPros.com

Looks like a defrost problem.
You will have to let it run for a day to let it freeze again.
I am assuming that the evaporator/freezer fan was running OK.

First remove the evaporator cover in the freezer so you can see the coils.
If they are heavily iced/frosted over then it is a defrost problem.
Do not let them de-ice.

If yes.
Manually force a defrost cycle by turning the defrost timer cam (Item 257 in Section 03) till the fans and compressor turn off.
There is usually a hole in the cover to let you do this without taking anything apart.
Now check the defrost heater to see if it is on.
Be careful you do not want to burn your fingers.
If the heater is on then the timer needs replacing, re: it is probably stalling during it's rotation so is never getting into a defrost cycle.

If not on.
Unplug the unit.
Remove the wire for one side of the heating element (Item 230 in Section 02) from the wiring and measure it for continuity, usually around 20 ohms or so.

If the heater is OK
Remove one wire to the defrost thermostat (Item 240 in Section 02) and measure it, should be 0 ohms when frozen. Note that it opens just above freezing so must be frozen to check it. Also inspect it, if it is bulged at all replace it even if it measures OK.

If both the above are OK then odds are the defrost timer contacts are toast.
Best way to test this is a live test to see if you have 120 volts across the heater/defrost thermostat combo.

Denman, thanks for the reply.
Yes, the fan was running.

Where do I find the defrost timer cam?

Since defrosting it yesterday (with a hair dryer and before I received your instructions) the fridge is cooling.

But after reading the information you posted, it is likely it will repeat the problem fairly soon if I do not find what is causing it.

Model is the CSX22GR according to sticker on door.

thanks

In the fresh food compartment control module.

I manually tested the defrost timer, it shuts off the fan but the heaters do not come on.
I have the dual heater element with the thermostat wired into it, and had to unplug it at the top. It did not have continuity.
I will order the heater element listed for my model number.
Thank you for your help.
