I have a top freezer unit, Kenmore mode 1998 shown above.

About 2 weeks ago, the temperature was up and down. Milk inside the fridge compartment was freezing then thawing.

Now, the freezer is cool, but not cold enough to freeze ice cubes. Fridge compartment is coolish, but milk only barely cool.

Replaced thermostat inside fridge, and defrost timer, but made no difference. Left unit unplugged overnight to defrost, but did not change.

What else could cause this?

Check the condensing fan and coils in the back.

Condensor coils in back are length and width of back of fridge, doesn't appear to have a fan back their either.

If the evaporator coils are not completely frozen, you have a refrigerant leak/ bad compressor.
