The transmission went bad and I have replaced it. It is a new genuine GE Renewal part. It came with a new tub seal. I am reassembling and am to the point of installing the new tub seal. The old seal came out moderately easy. I have watched a video on seal installing and it say to use a small piece of wood to tap it down into place. Here's my worry. The seal presses down into the hole fairly easy. I am worried it is not fitting tight enough to the tub. The shaft seal fits firmly. I've checked it against the old one. It is exactly the same looking and seems to be the same size. It has the same numbers on it. Is there some sort of compound that is supposed to be applied to the outer edge of the seal? Thanks, John.
