I recently purchased a replacement defrost thermostat from APP for a Kenmore refrigerator/ bottom freezer, model 59669872990. I used the site's part selector for my model and ordered the specified part (which is a substitute part from Whirlpool, the OEM). As seen in the picture, the connectors on the brown leads are different [original = round; part received = rectangular]. Is there a different part that should have been specified? Or, will I need to cut off the connector (on the refrig. or thermostat end), acquire an appropriate terminal from somewhere, and crimp it on? Or, is there a ready-to-use adapter for this? I know that Searspartsdirect.com also indicates a part substitution (possibly with the same mismatch?), so the error is probably on Whirlpool/ Sears end. APP customer service told me that I could return it for a full refund if necessary, but that I should check here first. I'd like to make it work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. -Eric earmstro attached the following image(s):

I would cut the connectors off and use a couple wirenuts (murrets) to install the thermostat.
Force a defrost to make sure it works. If OK fill the open end of the wire nut with calking (silicone) Then twist tie or zip tie the wirenuts to a place where the open end will face down (just an extra precaution to keep water out of your connection. |
