Good news: Three pin connector at bottom of freezer door (behind kick plate) was the problem. White wire had become corroded/broken (possibly due to moisture?). Managed to "worry" the ferrule crimp-on connector pin out from the plastic housing of the female side of the connector and re-attach (re-crimp) the wire into it...hooked everything up..taped over the connector and everything is working now as it should..don't think this G.E. refrigerator is worth the price (2,200 7 yr. ago)
