Hi Guys, my question regards a kenmore front-loading washing machine, model 417.xxxx (I don't know the rest of the numbers offhand).

I went in this evening to swap the laundry and discovered a puddle of water on the floor :(.

A bit of background... we moved about a month ago, and the @#%@# appliance installer people neglected to remove the drum supports after installing the washing machine. We ended up running a few loads where the washing machine banged all over the place before i figured out what was going on and took those supports out, now life seemed good.

The puddle wasn't huge, so I pulled out the washing machine to try to figure out where it's coming from, and sure enough, there's a little stream of water spraying out of the drain hose. I'm guessing all the banging around at first stressed the hose, but who knows (at one point the washing machien "Walked" across the laundry room and was banging against the wall).

Anyhoo... at least I can *see* the leak. Is there some sort of epoxy or silicone or whatever stuff that I can just goober the leak with and make it go away, or do I have to replace that hose?

How hard is it to replace the hose? How do I get into the machine to get where the hose is attached?

thanks!

-Rick (tired, and with damp socks)

I have had some success with "Goop" sealant. Other folks have reported success with a bicycle tube patch.

If you need more info please post back with the full model number and tell us exactly which hose the leak is on.

thanks

Thanks, sidfink. I actually picked up some plumbing Goop yesterday and applied it to the little hole (and all around that area where it looked like the hose was slightly abraded). The hose in question is the one that comes out of the bottom/back of the washing machine, and goes up to the drain hole in the wall next to the hot/cold water supplies. It's kind of corrugated and is more plastic-y than rubbery, so I'm thinking a tire patch might not work.

I'll get the full model number tonight, but I'm hoping that 30 hours of curing was enough for the goop (the package said 24h cure), so I'm going to try a test load when I get home.

The test load seemed to go fine, so I pushed the washer back against the wall... time shall tell :). The "plumbing" Goop looked and smelled almost identical to the "household" Goop, but it seems to have done the job :).

My experience was also good. Hope it stays good, but let us know if it fails so we can try something else.

Good luck, and thanks for updating us
