Well, nice going Tammy , you do all the work and we get the thanks.
All of us who do repair have experienced what you experienced. Basically, we do not know what is wrong, but we take the thing apart, put it back together and it works. Why, who knows?
Anyway, let us know if you have problems again and we can investigate other things like the clutch that richappy referrred to.
Good luck, hope we don't have to hear from you.

Let me ask a question that goes along with this subject. On a Whirlpool direct drive washer. As stated previously the pump and motor run off the same shaft. What keeps the pump from draining the water from the tub in the agitation cycle? Is the motor reversible and pump only turns when the motor reverses to the spin and drain cycle? This would make sense. The pump impeller would only turn in one direction? Thanks

Hi...When the machine is agitating, the pump is turning..backwards... and no water will 'pump' out. The pump running backwards 'holds' the water back.

This would mean the pump is designed to pump water in only one direction, correct? Joe Clemmons

Joe...You are correct. The direct drive w/p w/m motor runs one direction to wash/agitate, and runs in the opposite direction to spin/pump-out. The pump is coupled to the motor directly, so it always runs . jf
