Hi all.
My Whirlpool washer will fill and drain, but will not spin. Also, when filled with water (but without clothes in it) the agitator will rotate slightly but without much force. During the spin cycle I tried to rotate the drum manually, but it would not move. These symptoms appeared suddenly. Within the past two years I have replaced the coupler, dogs, and the pump.
After searching around the forum I have come up with four possible problems:
Couplers broke again The clutch is shot The brakes seized Something got stuck in the tub The gearecase is bad
Can someone help me diagnose this down to one or two items?
Thanks in advance, Larry

I opened up the washer tonight and I found a bunch of nylon fuzz in the vicinity of the coupler. It looks like the center of the nylon part has worn out and is not engaging the gearbox output shaft. I'll replace the coupler and let you know how it goes.

OK, so I installed the new coupler and the drum spins fine. However, the first load my wife did caused the washer to smell of smoke.
So what should I check/replace next?
