My large element, 8", blew a hole. Now even the back large element when inserted in this socket, will not heat.

Very well may have taken out the switch or the socket. With a meter you could check to see if you were getting voltage to the receptacle when you turn on that particular switch. If you do then the problem must be with the receptacle. If you don't, then it's the switch. Below pics should cover everything involved.
