My kenmore direct drive washer was working fine after Hurricane Irene with over 4 feet of water, but it stops spining shortly afterwards. It fills, agitates, and drains fine, but it does not spin after the wash or the rinse cycle. However, sometimes when I open the lid and close it back down, I will hear a cranking sound, and it starts spining, the same happens after the wash and rinse cycles. I have checked the neutral drain mechanism and it looked fine. I have also replaced the capacitor, but it still does not spin. I would appreciated any help. Could the clutch be the problem, cause it agitates but dose not spin? Could the 4 feet of flood water do something to any components? Thanks

If the timer fails to stop power briefly during spin, replace the timer.AP3129713

Thanks for the tip. I have just replaced the timer, so the timer should be fine. Any other suggestions? Thanks again

I am surprised your motor still works after soaking in water.
It seems like your clutch is slipping and the brake shoes dragging.
Go to my sticky above, "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes" to get complete info.
