GE Trash Compactor (GCG1580L0SS)..... I'm in the middle of a find and fix repair job. Am curious if any experts have some insight or recommendations. **
The compactor would not consistently cycle. I drilled an access hole into the bottom panel of the trash compartment. This allowed me to use a screw driver to rotate the drive chain just slightly. After which the unit would cycle per normal for 10 cycles or so.**
This **contained the problem. It was ultimately still annoying. So I researched a bit and decided to replace the motor. Now the fun begins....
Motor is installed, but now I have a new problem? I'm thinking I have an alignment problem between the limit switches and ram position. I've removed the top panel and see the two switches (limit and motor direction I believe). I've experimented and manually repositioned the ram into a few locations. The motor used to cycle briefly and then trip the limit switch quickly with the ram too low to open the bin. Several (bad) adjustments later, now it just trips the breaker when plugged in.**
Seems like good time to solicit assistance....**Any suggestions?
