Maytag 24-inch wall over; cwg3100aae; installed august 2001
The oven heats initially and agrees with a mechanical oven thermometer; but then takes forever to bake or cook.
In the most recent attempt to use the oven, cookies were not done after an hour, and then suddenly the oven went into a runaway state, burning the cookies; but the CANCEL button on the control panel turned off the oven.
Is there no redundant safety mechanism to shut down the oven in the event of a control panel failure which results in the burner staying on continuously?

I forgot to mention that the error code " - F2 -" was displayed during the runaway high-temperature episode.
