jglaser07,
Does the igniter glow? Check for 120VAC to the igniter while the control calls for Bake. What is the rest of the model number?

jack441999,
What is the complete model number of the oven? Can you be more specific on the problem?

Gene. hello gene The oven is so old that the model number is not readable. The problem is that the gas will not light because the gas valve will not open, but the hot surface ignitor comes on. So my guess is that the gas valve is bad, but it worked fine before i cleaned it.

Most common problem is a weak igniter. Problems with gas valves are much more rare. You can measure the current drawn by the igniter and if it's less than 3.25 amps, if there is a flat igniter, or less than 2.55 amps, if there is a round igniter, then the igniter is bad.
Gene.
