top load kenmore is draining during the wash cycle. fills tub up fine. doesnt even get halfway through and the water will be half gone. drain pipe is level or above tub and there seems to be an air gap. opened lid to watch and you can see the water slowly drain during the cycle.

please help.

as a side note, the agitator doesnt completely work right either. when the wash cycle starts you hear a clunking noise but it doesnt do anything. You can manually spin it and it will engage, but wondering what that problem might be as well.

Sounds like a complaint you would hear with an old "wig wag" belt driven machine. Could be a weak wash solenoid; the clunk points to a broken cam bar or a rusted shift pin.

The agitation could be from worn shoe augers (part # AP3099032). The syphon effect could be the drain hose down in the pipe too far.
