Our 10-year-old Maytag dishwasher has recently begun to leak at the right door hinge. The problem was intermittent for a while, but the machine now leaks during every wash and rinse cycle. A local repair guy couldn't find anything wrong, but suggested replacing the lower wash arm. The wash arm looks perfect to me. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

my dishwasher began doing the same thing. The inner plastic door had a crack at the bottom of the door. The door must be replaced. Check for crack or break first on the bottom of the door.

Thanks James1719! I looked carefully at the door with a flashlight and found no cracks, but I did find a crack on each side of the tub about one-third up from the bottom. Are these plastic tubs made in two parts and then glued together?? The "cracks" are symetrical and run uphill toward the back of the tub.

I don't know about the tub. The inside door has a flange about 1/2 inch that touches the bottom of the tub. My flange had a crack about 2 inches long that you could not see unless you reached down to the bottom of the inside door plastic and lightly pulled it up. Then you could see the crack. Hope that helps you, Jim

I checked the flange carefully with a flashlight and a mirror and tried flexing it as you suggested but can't find a crack. I really appreciate your effort to help me. I have two replacement splash guards and a lower washarm on order. If the leak doesn't stop when I install those parts, I may be in for a new machine. If I have one more service call without results I will be into this half the cost of a new dishwasher. These things drive me crazy!

I was vexed with this same problem of leaks at the right door hinge. By experimenting with the setting of the rinse-aid dispenser, I discovered that I could get the leaking to stop. The rinse-aid dispenser is the round dial just beneath the detergent dispenser. I don't use rinse-aid anyway, so I just put some clear silicone caulking all around the base of the rinse-aid dial and magically no more leaks now (fingers crossed).

I believe my leak is the result of a faulty design of the rinse-aid dispenser. It is a potentially dangerous problem that could result in a fire. Maytag has issued a dishwasher recall for this issue.
