Hi everyone.
We've got an 8 year old Kenmore dishwasher (the thin, skinny kind, not full size) which isn't filling with water at all. I'm not sure of the model number, as I'm not sure where to look for that.

The dishwasher was grinding/ roaring loudly, and even rattling the house a bit. Eventually, water stopped coming into the machine altogether.

I removed the lower spray arm (it doesn't have an upper arm), and took out all of the filters and other plastic pieces until all I had was a dishwasher with a little hole in the bottom that leads to a pipe to who-knows-where. Nothing was clogged up in the plastic pieces, so I put it all back together, fixing nothing.

Now, the cylinder in the dishwasher spray arm seems to be trying to move, but unable to. There is no water coming into the machine, and it only makes a quiet grinding noise, kind of like gears stripping or something like that. I've tried putting a couple pitchers of water into the machine (I read somewhere on this forum that occassionally that will solve the problem), but the water drains within seconds.

My only guesses are that: 1. The fill valve is broken and/or clogged. 2: Something isn't getting the right amount of voltage.

I' have no idea what to do. Christmas is coming fast, and currently we're washing everything by hand. I could really use some diagnoses and solutions.

Thank you.:)

Okay, upon a second look, I found that the motor spindle actually sticks up into the basin of the dishwasher, and is supposed to drive a little "fan", which would power the water into the spray arm. However, the spindle seems to have rusted through, and thus it won't push any water into the spray arm, and thus nothing gets washed and thus the grinding noise. Question is: Do I have to replace the motor? Or do I just get a new dishwasher?
