Help!! Dryer started taking along time to dry , this went on for about a month and then one day we smelled the smell that you smell when you first turn your electric heaters on after summer and now it will run but won't heat, both breakers are fine, what do we check now?

Ashton, The first thing to check is, you exhaust venting and vent hood for clogs, kinks, and the hood for damage. then you need to check the hi limit thermostat, thermal fuse, and heater element for closed circuits with a meter. Also check the wiring to those components for damage. I've attached the service manual instructions for accessing the heater and thermostats and fuse. (see below) 1. Unplug dryer or disconnect power. 2. Remove the rear panel. 3. To remove the thermal cutoff (TCO) a) Remove the two wires from the TCO terminals. b) Remove the hex-head screw, unhook the end of the bracket, and remove the TCO.
4. To remove the heater and inlet thermistor/ high-limit thermostat a) Lift the locking tab and remove the 2-wire connector from the inlet thermistor. b) Remove the wire connector from the high-limit thermostat terminal. c) Remove the two wire connectors from the heater terminal block. d) Remove the two hex-head screws from the heater assembly and remove the assembly e) Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the inlet thermistor terminal off the heater terminal, and remove the thermistor from the assembly.Good Luck,
