well if i engage the cam manually the tub spins. im still puzzled. belt looks good and if i put pressure on motor to tighten belt up and it still will not engage cam.

If you can egage it manually then I'd have to say replace the cam.

what stops the cam from engaging? i lean the washer back and with a screwdriver engage it and turn it on and drum spins. stop it and try again bt it self and it will not engage. what makes it engage when it reaches the spin cycle? and cam looks ok. how much would a cam be

well i put back together with new pulley. now when the washer goes into first wash the agitator and drum spin. the lower pulley is adjusted correctly. still at a stand still.

I am having a similar problem on my Maytag Ensignia MAV7657. It only spins for a short time at end of wash cycle, does not spin at all during spin cycle. Cleaned/greased motor plate and spring looks good. During spin cycle the motor reverses, the agitator still turns and drum does not spin. When I manually reverse pulley, cam does not turn as transmission shaft just turns in reverse. What keeps the shaft stopped so cam can twist to unlock brake and engage drum to trans? Any diagnostic tips would be appreciated.
