Hi,

My 7-year old Kenmore front load washer was making very loud noise and severe vibration during the final spin starting yesterday. Please tell me what the problem is and how to fix the problem.

Thanks.

Sounds like the dreaded broken spider with the possibility of the added bonus of failed bearings.
To confirm this diagnosis you are going to have to dismantle the machine to see inside the outer drum. Should the seal on the spider shaft have also failed there will likely be a brown streak down the back of the outer tub, at the back, from the centre of the pulley. You can get a look at that by taking the back panel off, just unplug the washer, remove the hoses from the top back of the washer, and remove the 20 odd screws holding the back panel in place. The back panel is 'structural', that is why there are so many screws, so do not run the machine, particularly in a spin 'phase' without the back panel in place and fully secured.
Parts alone will cost about $300, add to that the cost of labour and the machine is likely not worth fixing. Should you be able to perform the work yourself, or get someone to do it for free, or nearly so, you may be able to get away with just a new inner tub and spider plus seal and bearings, not what Sears/Frigidaire will try and sell you, spider and inner tub plus rear section of outer tub complete with seal and bearings.
Let us know what you find or decide to do.
Do not forget to let Sears know what you think at MySears.com. Under discussions go to ‘Appliances’ then to ‘Washers and Dryers’, then either start anew thread or add to an existing one.
