Hello...

Have a problem with a frigidair gallery dryer. I went to turn it on the other day and heard a popping sound then noticed sparks flying out the back of the dryer. I opened up the back cover and found burned wires. I attached a couple of pictures of the problem area. Its actually the power chord and the piece it attaches to on the back of the dryer. I would like to know if this can be repaired or if its time to buy a new dryer. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Yikes!!

It looks like your dryer cord was wired incorrectly to the machine. Your picture shows the neutral (white) wire connnected to where the ground should be connected, and the ground connected to the place where the neutral should be connected. This may have made your entire dryer cabinet live.

The good news is that you are still alive to tell us about this.

Put in a new connections block, check the internal wiring to make certain nothing melted or broke and get a new dryer cord and connect it the right way and you should be ok. Do not operate the dryer while you are out of the house until you are certain everything is ok, in fact, I think it is a good idea never to operate a dryer when no one is at home.

If there is any indication of an internal short within the dryer, replace it. You are dealing with potentially lethal levels of current and potential fire starter.
