I took my dryer apart up to the drum. I did not remove the drum but leaned it out and can see two wheels. If this is what is causing the squealing, I'll need directions to take the drum out and parts needed to repair this. Thank you.

You were almost there and done.

When you remove the drum, you will be able to see and access the idler pulley as well, That is most likely your squealing noise.

I attached the possible parts you may need(I would reccomend you repalce).

Part number: AP4372890
Part number: AP4372890

Part number: AP4008534
Part number: AP4008534

Part number: AP4290988
Part number: AP4290988

The method I use is :

Of course you've disconnected power to the unit, and removed the front panel and front tumbler support.

Grasp the lower part of the tumbler and carefully pull the bottom out towards you, until the drum slides off the drum rollers.

Move drum out until there is a gap large enough for your hand to reach between the drum and the back tumbler wall(5 or 6 inches).

Slip belt off of idler pulley and remove drum and belt.

When you clean / replace drum rollers you need to use a high speed machine oil(3 in 1 oil works well) as well as the idler pulley , to lubricate the bearings and shafts.

Reverse the procedure to complete the repair.

I'm sure you'll have it taken care of in a matter of minutes.

Got the parts, got the drum out, replaced parts (took a while to figure out how to get the old pulley off - there was a spring washer I couldn't see). Put belt on (took a while to figure out how) and put everything together - drum doesn't turn. Took it all apart and belt was off pulley, figured that happened when trying to get the drum back in place. Put belt on and put everything together (again). Drum turned some (maybe 1/4 turn) and then nothing. Took it apart (third time - I'm getting good at this), belt had slipped off pulley. So I guess the first time it slipped off probably wasn't because of trying to get the drum back in place. There is some play in the pulley. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Which pulley has play in it ?

Two things are happening :

The belt is slipping into the Suppot groove in the drum.
Causing the slack.

Make sure the belt is NOT twisted, also make sure the ribs of the belt are not against the drum, they should be facing up
(I used to turn the drum 1 or 2 revolutions(slowly)by hand to align the belt on the pulleys before putting it back together.

Give that a try, and you'll be OK.;)

I'm still at it : ( I thought there was only one pulley, the white plastic one. Anyway, I got the belt on and staying on. Tumbler turns freely by hand. Problem is after I put the shroud on, the drum is extremely hard to turn. Seems there is only one way to put the shroud on. I did notice the felt going around the shroud. There is one place where it meets that it is very thick. Could that be causing the drum not to turn freely? Can I just cut some of the felt to thin it out? Help!!!!

It sounds like you've got the belt installed properly, but you may want to varify that(routing is on back of the bag the belt came in).
A miss routed belt will cause a heavy drag on the drum and stall the motor.

Check both felt seals, (front and rear) makes sure there is nothing stuck(button, zipper tab, etc),usually that will make a noise but ...

Make sure the felt seal is not rolled over or "doubled upped". I used a plastic tool (tooth brush handle)and slipped it between the drum and both supports to insure the seal sat properly.

Could you have bent the cabinet flange or the tabs on the tumbler support, when you dismantled the machine ?

No, the doubled felt seal should not be shortenned or trimmed,it really has nothing to do with a "drag" unless it's been damaged or disturbed.(it's what keeps the heat in the drum).

Like I said before, make sure the new belt is not twisted, the grooved side of the belt faces up, away from the drum and it is routed properly around the idler and motor pulley.
