My old dryer motor has given up the ghost. I bought it new in 1969 so it is really old. I am just thankful the good Lord made it last this long. The wiring instructions tell me to connect the red wire of the wiring harness to #2 on the motor. I don't have a red wire. The old motor had a white, blue, and black wire going to it.
There is NO red wire on that harness.
I wonder what I need to do next.
Any ideas?

Any ideas? What part number did you order ? What is the part number on the instruction sheet? And what is the model number & serial number of the dryer? We may be able to assist you better with that information.

what is up with this screen I can't move the icon to edit mistakes I have to erase everything. The instructions with the new motor told me to ignore the black wire if I don't have one on my harness. I do have a black but not a red wire. So I decided to ignore the red wire and connect the black and white to the same numbers on the new motor that the used on the old. I turned it on and the motor run for fifteen minutes without overheating. The repair guy told me he had not seen one like mine for at least fifteen years. I reckon that suggests mine is the last of the factory motors. My dryer does not have a model and serial number anywhere that I can find. It must have been a sticker that fell off. Like I said, it was new in 1969 The old motor has a lot more metal in it. I think I will have it rebuilt and save it. The part number of the old is 339635. The new one is 279827. The new one is working like a champ and the repair guy told me it also has a thermal overload which is good. I found a horrendous mess in the housing that covers the fan blade. It is a wonder it didn't catch fire. I guess it was a good thing the motor quit. I frequently clean out underneath the dryer with a vaccuum but I just never thought of that area getting plugged up. Only half of the opening was clear. A guy could make a living just cleaning those things if people knew what was back there. anyway, it seems I bothered you for nothing but just maybe you will come across one like mine and from this you will know to ignore the instructions for the non existant red wire.
