I need to replace the RobertShaw thermostat kit on my 1968 Modern Maid electric oven. The numbers on the existing thermostat are 74-4-14 just below the top of the plate. There is a second number across the middle of the plate that begins with M and ends with what appears to be RA-21-36. A local parts house had a Robert Shaw thermostat # 5430-175 that had the correct length shaft but the mounting holes did not match up.

A second parts house had a thermostat that was identical to the old thermostat and would mount up but the shaft was to short and did not extend far enough throught the panel to attach the knob. That number was 49-9-005.

What do you have or suggest?

The most important characteristics are: electrical identity and the stem length. Mounting holes can be altered in most cases.
