I found plastic shavings in my washers tub today. I did a second load and the washer made a banging noise and stopped spining. What is the problem Should i junk the washer I bought it in 2011

Check to see if the metal tub is loose, can you wobble it side to side, can it be spun freely independent of the agitator? It might be the tub has broken loose from the mounting hub assembly. That would cause the top of the tub to rub against the top plastic rim causing those plastic shavings as well as the banging noise.

thanks so much for the help. I removed the agitator and found that the tub had broken off from the part that makes it spin The T nut will not come off since the part below the nut spins (tub broken off from the part that makes the tub spin).

I found the plastic is coming off from the plastic ring under the tub.

This is happening since the tub was hanging off it dug into the plastic a little bit. Is it worth it to repair the washer or buy a new washer? The current machine is around 6 years old.

If the bottom of the tub is broken and you have to replace the basket and hub assembly that is very expensive.
