I have a Whirlpool Admiral washing machine (SN 10336209MH) that has worked flawlessly with only one repair for almost 23 years. In recent weeks, I’m seeing that it fills fine, but hesitates when it begins the wash cycle. Specifically, I hear a click, it starts to agitate then stops immediately. Then starts and stops again. After a few rounds of this, it kicks in and completes the full cycle. As of yesterday, it fills and dies right away. There is also a burning smell. Could this be a belt or is the motor a goner? I would never consider reviving a 23 year old machine but this thing is such a work horse that I’m hoping that a few hundred bucks gets me a few more years.
