I am sure this has been answered somewhere on this forum before but I am new here so please forgive me.

This past Friday my son left the door open on our french door refrigerator for about 3 hours. It started cooling when we closed it, but only for a day. The freezer compartment got to about 25° and the refrigerator compartment reached 37°. This worked for a day then it started to heat up again. We unplugged it overnight and the next day after plugging it back in the same temps were reached. Again only for about a day before it started warming up. Any ideas as to what may have happened? I am pretty capable of repairing most things but if leaving the door open while it was running for that long caused any major damage I may not be able to fix it myself.

Thanks

Pull the freezer back panel and check for total frost. If so, remove the frost and see if it now runs normally.

I unplugged it yesterday and am going to take off the back cover and test the thermostat and heater coil. I tried doing a forced defrost on the control panel. This just shutdown the compressor but it did not defrost. I am assuming that it has to be the heater coil thermostat or control board.

OK. I've taken the back off and it is completely defrosted. Checked the heater coil for continuity and it was good. Put the thermostat in ice water for 15 minutes with my ohm meter attached to the ends of the wires and it never shorted. No continuity thru the thermostat. Unfortunately this model has the thermostat permanently attached to the wiring harness. Ordering one of those today. Hopefully it will work. And since the coils are defrosted I can plug the fridge back in and get a couple of days of use out of it until the harness comes in.

OK. Fridge ran for about 5 days after fully defrosting and I just replaced the wiring harness this morning. Hopefully that fixes it. If not I believe my only other option is to replace the control board. Is there anything I may have missed? The control board is another $140.
