I am working on a side-by-side GE refrigerator manufactured in October 2002. The main control board and evaporator fan motor had to be replaced because they were bad and two thermistors (evaporator and behind damper). The freezer is between 0F and 5F, but the refrigerator is usually around 55F. I wonder what could be the problem if the damper opens and closes and the thermistor right behind it was replaced. It's late and I can't think right now,any ideas are pretty welcome............... Thank you!

I believe you have an airflow problem. Check the cooling fan located in the inside of the freezer, usually behind the back wall. When the fan fails the air is not distributed evenly throughout the refrigerator and the temperature will be too warm.
If you remove the back wall and find it is really iced up especially over the drain outlet, then the ice is interfering with the airflow to the refrigerator and you need a new heating unit, the defroster wire attached to the evaporator coil.

Well, the defrost heater was one of the components that originally had to be replaced (new) because the one it had looked too bad soon-to-fail. Thence I will have to replace the evaporator fan motor with a new one. I should let you know the outcomes soon.

The evaporator fan motor was replaced again andcthis time with a brand new one. However the fresh food section of the refrigerator is still betweem 50°F and 55°F. Reminder: The thermistor located behind the damper in the fresh-food section was also replaced with a brand new one as well as the main control board. The freezer temperature is perfect between 0°F amd 5°. What could be the problem?
