Remove the front panel by inserting a putty knife into the top groove of the panel in line with the lid opening on each side while pulling on the front panel to release the clips. Tilt the front panel out and lift away from the cabinet. Observe the bottom of the motor when in spin mode. The motor shaft protrudes below the belt pulley and has a clip on it. If the clip is spinning but the pulley is not, then the clutch is slipping. With the machine off, you should be able to rotate the motor pulley by hand clockwise (looking from below) which will turn the larger pulley, releasing the brake and rotating the transmission and basket. If the motor shaft does not rotate during spin, but the motor is humming, then the timer is likely defective. The motor direction of rotation is reversed during spin and that is accomplished through the timer contacts.

I replaced the hub. The washer agitates and spins while rinsing. However, it still doesn't spin in spin mode. The pulley moves, but it makes a loud clicking sound while in operation.

Is the tranny fried? Or do you think it's the timer? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Yeah, it's strange. It agitates. In rinse cycle while fresh water is coming in, it spins slowly. In spin cycle, it does nothing.

I'll check the spring. Thank you for all the help, Eric. If it's not the spring, we likely will replace the washer. The innards look pretty worn out. We bought it for $80 on Craigslist. Probably time to invest in something new.
