My Frigidaire side by side randomly stops cooling but works after being left unplugged for several hours. It may work for a week or a couple of days.

Is it entering defrost mode and not coming out of defrost mode?

I thought it might be the Adaptive Defrost Control. But not clear on how to test it. When I trigger defrost mode using door switch the heater starts within a few seconds.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Here are your parts includes a wiring diagram.

When it stops cooling do both the compressor and it's fan also the evaporator fan, all shut off as they are controlled separately by the defrost board.

If you just unplug it for a minute or so does it start cooling again?
The reason I asked is that the defrost board is a solid state device and should reset quickly. So if it needs at least an hour I doubt it is the defrost board.

Next time it happens jiggle the thermostat back and forth a bit.
If it fires up then I would replace the thermostat as it may be sticking open.
That would also explain why it takes a several hours to reset as the temperature in the unit has to rise high enough to un-stick the contacts.
