I pushed it to compact, it stayed down, will not come up and the motor just runs. I checked to see if a bag could be caught in the gears, but I can't tell, any suggestions?

I pused the button to compact it went down, but it won't come up. just sits there with the motor running. I checked as good as I could to see if something is caught in it, but I can't see anything. Any suggestions?:confused:
