Hi all.
I have a Kenmore 3 speed washer which will not do anything after filling up. It just sits there and hums. no agitation, nothing . i tried to put it on another cyle like drin or spin and no luck, just hums. I search the internet for possible reasons and everything points to the motor coupler. I tore the machine apart and the coupler looks fine. (how do tell if it is bad?)
When i turn the shaft the coupler is on behind the mounting plate under the tub i get some stiff resisitance (could something be jammed in the agitator? so i tried to remave the agitator and the instrustions say to use a 7/16 socket to rome bolt under cap , my machine does not have a bolt just a round shft, how do i remove the agitator to get to the gearcase?
any help wold be apprciated as i am at my wits end

thank you:(

Did you ever figure out the problem? Mine's doing the same thing, and I suspect the lid switch, but am just not sure. I can make it work by filling it up with a Rinse cycle, then switching over to the Wash cycle where it will agitate and finish.

Check to see if it's the motor that makes the hum sound and see if it's warm. If so, you probably have a bad timer, or motor, or both. Also, check to see if the motor shuts down on it's thermal overload. If so, you just have something jammed like a sock in the pump.
