I have an kenmore electric dryer that is about 8 yrs old. When I push the start button all I hear is a ticking noise and the dryer will not turn on. The light inside the dryer is on, so we have power. Is this a big issue? Should I get it fixed or buy a new dryer?

A model number may help others help you.
Should not be hard to fix. A ohms meter will be handy to check the parts in the start circuit.
Things to check would be: 1. The thermal fuse (usually white device, mounted on the blower assembly). 2. The door switch, just because the interior light side works does no mean the normally open side of the switch closes when the door is closed. You may want to manually hold the door switch actuator to be sure the switch is getting closed. Note this still does not check the contacts in the switch. 3. The push to start switch |
