My in-laws have a dryer that just won't start. About 5 years ago, we had to replace the thermo fuse / high thermo and clean out the pipe.
We again did these things mentioned above, but still no luck. The power has been confirmed (220), start/off switch makes contact, and the door switch looks to be OK (not sure if it was actually tested with a meter).
One thing my mother-in-law did mention is that lately she's had to move the timer switch around to get the dryer to work. That sounds to be either the timer switch is now bad or it isn't making good contact. The dryer is located in an old basement that is a little damp. Is there a way to test the timer with a meter or bypass it to verify it needs replaced or isn't the problem? Also, is there a way to clean the contacts within the timer?
Any help or additional testing suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks. It sure sounds as if you have a timer going out or a bad start switch. I have attached the wiring diagram, and hope you have a meter to circuit test the components. The legend at the top of the page will indicate closed circuits on the timer, when the listed dial selection is made(the striped boxxes). And NO, the contacts cannot be cleaned, you'll need a timer,if you find a problem. Should you need more assistance, drop us a line. :) :) :) http://www.servicematters.com/d...0Sheet%20-%203401723.pdf
