I've gone through 4 drive belts in the past 3 years. The motor pulley does not seem to be catching the drive belt, the belt stops spinning and begins to fray. I don't know if it has anything to do with the tension arm (& spring)? Any suggestions.

Boy, I hate to say just start out changing parts, but I am afraid that is what you will have to do here.

I would begin by replacing the idler pulley and the transmission pulley, and if that does not solve things, replace the motor pulley.

One of the pulleys may be warped, but that is difficult to see so replacing them may be your only way to fix things.

Thanks Sid, but I hate to keep throwing money into it. I got a good 14 years out of it. I'm going to get a new one.

I think that's a good decision. For that model you are probably in the 90th percentile for lengevity.

I suggest a no frills top loader, it will cost less and gives you years of trouble free service. Avoid anything with a mircro processor because they do not like moisture, heat, and vibration, and a washer has all three.
