Hi, I have a 18 month old Kenmore top freezer model # 253.7419240G that is just not getting cold. I have checked the defrost heater and that is working fine. I have manually kicked it into defrost with the timer and after about a half an hour the compressor comes back on. I have taken out the defrost thermo and overridden that and it has been about 3 hours and nothing is getting any colder. The fans for the condensor and the evaporator are clean and running fine. There is not any clogs that I can find. When looking at the evaporator coils there is some frost buildup on the right side where the line comes into the freezer, but the rest of the coils are free of frost and ice. Please help I am unemployed and am trying to save some money by fixing this myself. Thanks in advance!

When looking at the evaporator coils there is some frost buildup on the right side where the line comes into the freezer, but the rest of the coils are free of frost and ice.
Frost on only one area of the coils is usually and indication of low freon.
Let the unit run for 4 or so hours without a defrost cycle, if it is still the same then odds are high that low freon is the problem.
To ensure there is no defrost turn the defrost timer to just past a defrost cycle. It should then run 8 hours or so without defrosting.

The unit is 18 months old so this should be covered under warranty. Most units have 5 years on the sealed system.
Check your warranty.
