Our control panel has been replaced once before with no problems. We just replaced it again (don't get Maytag), but this time the washer will run fine, but you don't know what it is doing because the LED display does not work and the little green lights that tell what cycle it is on do not light up. Is this a defect in the part we ordered or are we missing something?

I am assuming that the control board was replaced for a different reason than no display.

I would try the following.
If that does not work then I would suspect that the control board you received has a problem.

Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

(Just an FYI: Our original problem was that we couldn't get our panel to work. Whatever we pushed put us to a 9 minute rinse cycle. There was no clearing and after a while, no buttons worked. We unplugged and replugged the machine and the ribbon many times to see if it would reset or if things were loose.)

Okay, we did all that you asked and it did not work at all. The panel is just dead. We wanted to put the old one back in to see if at least the lights were still working, to make sure we are having a panel problem and not something else. We decided to clean the ribbon first as you described...It took care of the problem! Our original panel is working.

So, now who do I contact to return the one we ordered as defective?
