i first got a f71 error but now when i plug it in i get nothing. i hit the power button it beeps 3 times. is it the main control i should replace. the tech said it was and wants $400 to do it. i have a new born and need to get this running and really do not have the extra $400 to do this. is this something i can do myself?

how do you change the main control on model wfw9200sq00? do you have to take off the front control panel?

any help would be great!

Hi Homeyj

First of all you have our sympathy, this is a very expensive washer, and I imagine only a couple of years old and you should not have this difficulty.

I have not worked on this model, only on earlier versions of the Duet Sport so I can only tell you that if is designed like the earlier models you can access the control module by removing the top. Three screws in the back should do it.

You should also try to troubleshoot the machine yourself. Look inside the lower service panel or under the top for tech notes, and they will tell you how. It may be, however, if your main board is shot that it will not do any troubleshooting routines.

However, before you do anything I would call Whirlpool and complain like hell about the machine and see if they will fix it for free, or at least provide the part. I know it is out of warranty but there is absolutely no reason why you should have to have this problem given the cost of the machine. Plus, you do not know for sure that the CCU is the problem (it is likely that it is) so if you do this yourself you could end up spending a lot of money for a part that does not fix the problem.

Contact Whirlpool, and don't take no for an answer.

Good luck.

thank you for the tips. i called whirlpool yesterday and they were no help. i will call again and see what they say again with a little force behind it. i was able to get the main control out so i am good there. if whirlpool will not do anything i will chance it on buying a main board. hopefully it works. i will post results as things progress!

i am able to unplug the mi3 cable from the ccu and everything works. i ran a few cycles and it dispenses the water correctly, locks the door and seems normal but of course the drum does not spin. i plug the mi3 back in and it does not work. do you still think the ccu/main control board is bad or should i be looking at something else?

Thanks for the update, what you report is interesting.

I still believe it is likekly the CCU but other than that
I cannot advise you on your issue because I have not worked on that model and I do not have any technical information on it. Hopefully some of the others who respond on this Forum can advise you.

If you shop around the internet you may be able to find the part less expensive than that, but be sure you inquire about the shipping charges as some supplier offset low prices with rediculously high shipping costs.

I have the exact same model with the same problem. After reading your post I removed the MI3 cable from the CCU and the panel lights up. The problem is the motor control unit. After replacing the MCU the washer works fine. I had to lock and then unlock the washer before it would power up. Order the MCU and you should be ok.
