i just posted this in the wrong forum, here again. freezer was producing snow. found that ice door flapper stays open after dispensing ice. what part (if any) do i need to replace? is it easy to do myself? are there instruction on how to replace the part?

Some of these models came with faulty doors. This would cause lots of problems. One the most common thing it would cause was the solenoid (#36 on your parts breakdown) that opens the flap would rust causing it to hang open. Peel back the door gasket and if it is held on by screws if so it has the faulty doors. If it has the faulty doors I almost guarantee the solenoid is rusted up. Changing the solenoid will fix your problem but it will do it again (maybe in six months or may in three years).

If you don’t have the faulty doors the solenoid may still be bad but it is more likely that the flap is warped out of shape (no longer flat) this will also cause this problem.

To access both of these parts remove the dispenser panel by prizing it off with a screwdriver from the bottom. Then remove the four screws holding the next housing on. Once done you can access both parts.

thank you! i opened the compartment and found access to both parts. the solenoid shaft is rusty and sticks in open position. the flapper seems ok. let me know if you recommend changing anything else in there while i am at it. i will order parts now... thanks
