I was having a few problems with my ice maker.
I replaced the whole unit and now it makes ice just fine. The problem is that when the bin is full of ice and the shut off bar is raised water continues to try to fill the ice maker trays and the water eventually overflows and I get a big block of ice in the ice bin. Do I need a new
water valve or what would my problem be? I just replaced my filter and the water inside the frig runs and stops just fine.

Thanks for any help

You can disconnect the water line where it come out of the water inlet valve and see if it's dripping there. If it is it's a water valve problem.

I disconnected the line to the ice maker like you said and nothing happened. No water drip. I pulled the arm up on the ice maker and left the hose disconnected for over 3 hours and no drip. Finally I had a brain storm.
I filled a glass with water from the in the frig filtered cold water maker and lo and behold there was water on my rag under the valve. I repeated this and once again water came out.

Is this a valve problem or some other problem.

thanks for any help

Joe,

If water still comes into the ice maker as usual with the shut off arm in "off" position then most likely the problem is a bad "on-off" switch in the ice maker which is a part of the motor-module.

- The motor-module Part number: AP4359694
Part number: AP4359694

Sorry about that Gene . The ice maker is not calling for water in the off position. I thought it was before but now it's not doing that.

The problem is that when we get ice water from inside the water dispenser, water not only goes to the water dispenser but some also goes to the ice maker. That is what is causing my problem.

Thanks
Joe B

Check the wiring harness to the water valve. Looks like some wires are crossed.

I checked the wire harness at the water valve and everything looks fine.
Two leads each going into their respective solenoid and a white wire that comes in and is jumped between the two solenoids. The wires don't appear to be frayed or damaged.

What should I try next? I also checked the connector where the main power comes in and it looks fine also.

Thanks

Hi Joe,

At this point I'm stumped. It is very hard to diagnose a such problem at the unit and almost not possible to do it remotely.
