I purchased a thermostat for the above refrigerator and installed it per the instructions sent. I set the dials according to the instructions and waited for something to happen. Nothing did until I gently tapped the temperature dial with my finger. The refrigerator immediatly started. However it has required a tap for the past 4 days since receiving the new thermostat. Could the new thermostat be defective? It was a universal replacement type. Please advise.
Thank you.

Sounds like the thermostat is defective or it might be not good for this refrigerator. It is better to use OEM parts. - The Whirlpool thermostat/cold control Part number: AP3120051
