Gene,

The refrigerator will turn on for about 6 to 10 seconds and then turn off. It continuous to do the same thing if I leave the switch on. If I leave the switch in the "on" position the refrigerator will turn on again and then off.
The fan will also run during the same period.

Thanks,
Rio

Rio,

By doing that you are killing the compressor. If you turned it off, it must stay off for at least 10 minutes to compensate pressure on the high and the low sides in the system.

Let the fridge to be off for a few hours, remove the cover on the back, turn it on and check if the compressor and the fan next to it are running.

Post your findings.

Gene.

This is a side by side refrigerator. It is 8 years old. The problem is as follows:

It quit cooling. If we turn is off for a minute or two and then start it, the compressor will start and run for about 10 seconds and then it will shut down.

Thanks,
Rio
