	Since you did not post a model number I am assuming this is a basic direct drive Whirlpool washer. The permanent fix is to replace the switch. Your's is probably partially broken so it take pressure more than your lid tab will do to close it. It is an inexpensive part, available on this site and at any appliance repair store. This site will show you how to open the machine to get to it. It is in the cabinet. Kenmore top loader blues (SublimeMasterJW's Appliance Advice)
