Thanx much, magician59 -- that's exactly what I needed to know ! UPDATE: Followed your advice of disconnecting at least one wire before testing and discovered that the thermofuse was the problem. Replaced that and drier is heating up fine. Thanx much, Glenn.

In the process of diagnosing why dryer is not heating. Testing continuity with a multimeter (my first time). Tested thermal fuse and the thermostats on the housing for the heating coils - all ok. However there is a 4-wire thermostat on the exhaust two purple wires (right and left terminals) and two red wires with white stripes (top and bottom terminals). Which pairs of terminals to I check for continuity ?
