Thanks for your reply. Actually I recently rebuilt with a new neutral drain kit and a new gear rack (which had cracked). I was careful to reassemble correctly.

Something is damaged or just worn out. You'll need to disassemble it, but finding parts is hard.

Brand: Whirlpool
Age: More than 10 years

I have repaired this machine many times even as far as rebuilding the transmission. The current problem is that on the agitate cycle, the bottom agitator rotates only anticlockwise, and when it should reverse it just gives a scraping snarl
Everything's else seems to work fine. Can you suggest what it might be?
